Gunite Versus Liner Waterfalls
Gunite Waterfalls

This waterfall is built out of Gunite to last a lifetime. Gunite is the same material used for inground swimming pools, and we recommend this application in our water features for several reasons:

1. Strength and Durability: Large boulders are set on top of the walls and inside the gunite shell without any damage, unlike a pond liner that could be torn or punctured.

2. Safety: Mortar or Gunite is used to secure and stabilize boulders from any potential slipping or movement from mother nature. This will greatly reduce the risk of injury to children, adults, animals, or mother nature.

3. Maintenance: Gunite requires very low maintenance. Our Gunite waterfalls are all self-contained and installed with a filtration system, water overflow, automatic timers for pumps, several valves for draining all reservoirs and easy cleaning with just a water hose. As for a liner, this can be a very time consuming and messy job, do to the fact that you have to hide the liner with river rock which filters in algae, sediment and debris.

4. Cost vs. Quality: The initial cost of constructing a Gunite waterfall is double the cost of a liner, but outweighs the potential problems that do occur with liners. The most common problems we see in the industry today is that the pond liner does not hold water. This is due to faulty workmanship by an inexperienced contractor or homeowner. Also settling problems occur and often times puncturing a hole while trying to clean .There are contractors that can install pond liners for waterfalls properly, but you as a consumer can only decide what is best for you.
