Open Meadow successfully re-engages disconnected youth in their education, providing academic and support services to those at high risk of dropping out of school. All students work toward high school graduation. Open Meadow High School is located in the historic Benson-Chaney estate in North Portland on three acres overlooking the Willamette River. It is a closed campus with breakfast and lunch available on site. The home-like atmosphere supports the high school's highly personalized approach to education.
The High School serves up to 80 students with classes that are designed to engage students with a variety of learning styles and skill levels. Classes average 12 students, allowing for frequent teacher/student interaction. Students work to earn credits toward a high school diploma and to meet the requirements for a Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) and Certificate of Advanced Mastery (CAM). During their senior year, students also participate in a Transition Crew where they complete either a college class or an external experience as they prepare for a life of independence beyond high school.
